University of Mississippi

Chartered in 1844, the University of Mississippi has grown to a doctoral degree-granting university with 15 academic divisions and 18,000 students. UM's research enterprise—including programs in acoustics, atmospheric physics, health care, remote sensing, Southern studies, space law and pharmaceutical sciences—is renowned internationally, and the University is home to more than 20 major research centers.

University of Southern Mississippi

Founded in 1910, The University of Southern Mississippi is a comprehensive doctoral and research-driven university with a proud history and an eye on the future. In just 100 years, Southern Miss has grown from a small teachers' college into a premier research university with a national reputation for excellence in both academics and athletics.

A dual campus university, Southern Miss serves students on campuses in Hattiesburg and Long Beach, in addition to six teaching and research sites in Mississippi.

Southern Miss offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in five degree-granting colleges – Arts & Letters, Business, Education & Psychology, Health and Science & Technology. In all, Southern Miss offers more than 180 degree programs for both undergraduates and graduates.

Today, Southern Miss has a diverse student body of approximately 17,000 with students from all 50 states and 70 foreign countries. The university celebrates diversity in every sense of the word, using our rich melting pot of cultures and backgrounds to further enhance the educational experience that is Southern Miss.

Jackson State University

Jackson State University, founded in 1877, is a historically black, high research activity university located in Jackson, the capital city of the state of Mississippi. Jackson State’s nurturing academic environment challenges individuals to change lives through teaching, research and service. Officially designated as Mississippi’s Urban University, Jackson State continues to enhance the state, nation and world through comprehensive economic development, health-care, technological and educational initiatives.

Mississippi State University

The National Science Foundation Higher Education Research and Development Survey places Mississippi State University eighth nationally for research and development expenditures in agricultural sciences among public and private institutions. MSU has ranked among the Top 10 in this category for 17 consecutive years. MSU offers to a diverse and capable student body a wide range of opportunities and challenges for learning and growth; to the world of knowledge, vigorous and expanding contributions in research, discovery, and application; and to the state and its people in every region, a variety of expert services. MSU is emerging as one of the nation's premier public universities, one with both a local and global focus. According to the NSF, MSU research accounts for more than half of the total $410 million in research and development expenditures reported by all Mississippi institutions in 2014. Frequently recognized in engineering and agricultural categories, MSU is also “Top 50” institution for research expenditures in the humanities, according to NSF data.


University of Mississippi Medical Center

The University of Mississippi Medical Center, located in Jackson, is the state's only academic health science center. UMMC encompasses six health science schools: medicine, nursing, dentistry, health related professions, graduate studies and pharmacy. (The School of Pharmacy is headquartered on the Oxford campus.) Enrollment in all programs is more than 2,500 students. The Medical Center's missions are to improve the lives of Mississippians by educating tomorrow's health care professionals, by conducting health sciences research, and by providing cutting edge patient care. A major goal of the Medical Center is the elimination of differences in health status of Mississippians based on race, geography, income or social status.
